地衣類(ライケン)の生態と不思議な共生関係

岩の上や樹木の幹に張り付く、不思議な見た目の生物「地衣類(ちいるい)」。一見すると苔や小さな植物のように見えますが、実は単一の生物ではありません。地衣類は、菌類(カビやキノコの仲間)と、光合成を行う藻類シアノバクテリアが密接に結びついて生きる「共生体」です。生物学における「共生(Symbiosis)」という概念を世に広めた先駆的な生命体としても知られています。

形態による分類と多様性
